GBHS visual art and whakairo November 2019

At the centre of whakairo student Jiaxi Du’s celebration of life is a mask based on a face seen on a Hong Kong banknote. One side of the face is white while the other is stylised. Calligraphic characters that stand for “long-life” and “blessings” are painted on either side of the mask. Like Sacha, Jiaxi blended Maori motifs with his imagery.

Tairawhiti Waka

I went on the Waka on Friday at 9:00am. We took the bus for 20 minutes and we got to the dock. We had four groups on the boat. I enjoyed my group which was Paul, Hayden, me and two girls. Then we helped one teacher with the hoi both ways. Next we had lunch. When i finished my food. I took KP’s potato chips and gave them to the Swiss girl. She was very happy and shared it with other girls. Until 1:30pm that was the end of a pleasant day.
