At Gisborne Boys’ High we believe that all students should develop a sound understanding of science concepts, and the ability to apply their science knowledge and skills, to prepare them for the knowledge-based society of today and tomorrow.
In order to instill an enthusiasm for science, and to provide students with the knowledge and skills that they need, we have developed a comprehensive, coherent science programme that takes a student from year 9 through to year 13.
Key features of the GBHS Science curriculum are:
-
Structured learning programmes that allow sequential development of scientific concepts.
-
Repetition of key concepts from year 9 to year 10.
-
Regular homework to reinforce classroom learning.
-
Practical activities that stimulate student interest and complement learning.
-
Regular testing and reporting to monitor progress.
-
Junior classes ‘streamed’ to allow students to progress at their own level – with regular review of students’ placement in classes.
-
A wide range of senior courses to meet differing student needs and abilities.
-
Clear pathways for any student to progress from year 9 through to senior courses.
Courses we deliver are:
Year 9 General Science
Year 10 General Science
