Our Students Thoughts
gavin Gavin Hedley Y9
The teachers here are friendly and approachable.
I like how we are always encouraged to achieve
excellence in everything we do. When you walk
through the assembly hall and see the photos of
past students you get a real sense of the tradition
and pride that is important to Gisborne Boys’
High School.

I really enjoy the fun and exciting lessons taught
at Gisborne Boys’ High school. I particularly like
Social Science and English which are always
interesting and well organised. I also like the wide
range of different sports that are offered and how
the school encourages competition and a sense
of belonging through the house system.

At Gisborne Boys’ High School I have been
challenged in every way. I have classes that suit
me and the ways I like to learn. I have teachers
who are really interested in me and who expect
me to work hard. I have had the opportunity
to lead the choir and the kapahaka group and
was awarded the prize for top national kaea in
2008. I also have the opportunity to travel to
play top level rugby with the schools 2nd XV.

The staff at Gisborne Boys’ High School give a
lot of their time to students, particularly outside
the classroom. I am involved in the 1st XV
rugby, touch, kapahaka and choir and I know
that the staff put in big hours. It makes me feel
like I want to succeed and has shown me the
value of hard work.
student thoughts 4 Manaaki Terekia Y13 (Head Prefect)
In 2009 I am the Head Prefect of Gisborne Boys’
High School. The school gives all students the
chance to succeed in many areas. I have had
the opportunity to learn and to attain academic
success in any subject. The school expects its
top students to succeed. I have had the chance
to participate in a wide variety of sports. The
school has a proud tradition and an expectation of
success. We are given the opportunity to become
leaders in a range of fields and we are able to go
out into the community with an expectation that
we can succeed.
