The Student Support Centre accommodates for the home rooms, the reading room, the RTLB staff Helena Nickerson and Colin Yates, and Psychologist Barbara Thomas. The physical surroundings are bright and welcoming and lots of new resources have been purchased as a result of a generous donation from our P.T.A and a successful application to 'The Lion Foundation" for funding.
The home rooms are for years nine and ten students who have some learning difficulties, with Mr Bob Hansen and Mr Ed Keefe facilitating respectively. Class numbers are small and generally students remain with these teachers for the four core subjects working on an adapted curriculum programme.
The reading room is staffed by Mrs Rosie Cairns. The main focus is to provide students with literacy support to enable them to achieve to the best of their ability at secondary school. The reading programme improves students’ comprehension and vocabulary and their reading and writing skills. Rosie Cairns also trains years twelve and thirteen peer tutors to assist junior students. These students volunteer a study period each week to support juniors in their reading.
