GOLF at GBHS.
International students studying at G.B.H.S have access to excellent golfing facilities and services. Our school has three levels of golf available to students:

At the highest level our school A & B teams play at regional level, against 7 other Boys’ schools (Tauranga, Rotorua, Tauranga, Napier, Hastings, Palmerston North and New Plymouth) in the annual Super 8 golf tournament. Our school often travels to the New Zealand Secondary School Champs to compete against 13 other schools to find the top school in the country. These competitions are always played over 36 or 54 holes on some of the best courses in New Zealand. As well as playing for GBHS all boys at this level also belong to one of the local courses.

Players who are slightly below A/B team level can also join a local golf, play regularly with the golf squad every second week and represent GBHS at C & D team level in the regional tournament.

Learner golfers can experience golf in terms 1 & 4 with golf starter programmes offered in conjunction with Sport Gisborne. Students at this level can then choose to join a club, improve their game and then qualify to play for the school.

Student membership at the local courses is very reasonable. There are two full courses in Gisborne and several smaller country courses nearby.

The Poverty Bay Golf Course is a nationally recognised course which before the resort club boom was ranked in the top 6 clubs in New Zealand. It is a long links style course near the beach with excellent views, fast greens and excellent playing conditions even after heavy rain.  Students only pay $120 for a year’s membership which includes unlimited rounds, use of practice fairway & greens and entry into all club events. http://www.gisbornegolf.co.nz/
