Good discipline is fundamental to the well-being of the school. It is the duty of the staff to insist on high standards to enable the teaching and learning process to be undertaken without disruption and to allow the students to make the most of every opportunity.
A good working atmosphere and excellent tone are established by caring teaching, a code of behaviour, the enforcement of school rules and by offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
Attendance at school for all periods that a student is timetabled for is an absolute requirement for academic achievement and realisation of a students potential. Students are legally required to attend school as determined by the Education Act. GBHS also has a truancy officer to follow up absences.
Gisborne Boys' High School operates an 8 step progressive student behaviour plan to support appropriate student behaviour within the classroom. We have a school wide detention system to maintain the school rules and standards of the code of conduct.
