Cultural Activities

Gisborne Boys' High School offers its students a wide variety of cultural experiences, from Music to Performing Arts and Debating.

Turanga Tane Turanga Wahine is another example of how Gisborne Boys’ High and Gisborne Girls’ High are able to work together toward success. Turanga Tane provides an outlet for the strong Senior and Junior Maori culture groups the school has developed. The group has traditionally maintained a high level of success in local and national competition and is often asked to perform on behalf of the community.

Performing arts, drama and related activities continue to flourish in our modernised Drama room that is a self-contained performance centre, with stage, costume rooms and various technological facilities. All boys are challenged to develop their talents and important skills such as oratory.

Gisborne Boys’ High School offers not only music classes but extra tuition in guitar, string, woodwind and brass instruments. We have active groups and individuals who perform in the school’s various groups which include the Highland pipe band, brass, string , chamber, vocal and rock bands.
