ART OF LEARNING
On May 10 & 11 we are having Wayne Prince from the Art of Learning come to GBH to deliver a programme of learning skills for selected Year 11, 12 & 13 boys. This will be a one day course designed to give your sons all the skills they need to cope well with assessments and exams which are a necessary part of NCEA. (see below re seminar for parents). The Art of Learning Ltd has been running these seminars in New Zealand for the last 16 years and has a great reputation for helping to motivate and inspire students to perform better at school and also for giving students the skills they need to be successful learners both within and beyond school.
Wayne Prince came to us for the first time last year and all the boys reported that they had a great day with him and learned “heaps”.
The course the boys will be doing is called NCEA Success and teaches them how to:
reflect on, and learn from, past examination experience keep focused and motivated throughout the year overcome obstacles and challenges to study create an effective study timetable set up their home study environment develop a flexible learning style
use key word summarising overcome exam nerves use good exam room technique.
In the evening following the first day of courses Wayne will also run an after-school seminar for teachers and in the evening another seminar for parents, 7pm in the Library. These seminars are designed to give ideas of how to support our boys to achieve their best in all their studies. The Art of Learning Ltd is a New Zealand based company owned and run by Mr Lance King who also provides a blog for parents at www.lancegking.wordpress.com where you can find many tips on how to help your children at any time of the year. Cost is $20 per student.
